Food and drinks in various Indian restaurants

what is true Indian food all about then? The first and most important thing about Indian cuisine is the diversity among dishes. Well there are two ingredients which you are guaranteed to find in every meal depending on which part of the country you are visiting - rice if you're visiting the south of the country and bread if you're in northern India. As well as this most cuisines are related by the use of similar spices, albeit with different ingredients. Apart from this, however, you are in for a real culinary adventure. Dishes in the south tend to be a little hotter and spicier than their counterparts in the north so you might do well to bear this is mind when ordering. Southern specialities as already mentioned are always accompanied by rice. Coconut is also widely used and seafood is also quite common. In contrast, however, coconut is rarely used in the north but milk products including curd, cream and cottage cheese are very popular. As well as this northern Indians usually used vegetable oil in cooking while the southerners use a nut or sesame based oil. Seafood is particularly popular in western Indian as is the internationally renowned Bombay duck which is also a type of fish for those of you not already in the know. Salmon is also a common vabourite. Even within the western provinces there are many specialities. In Rajasthan meat delicacies are widely consumed while in Goa, the fish curry with rice is a big favourite and is usually washed down with some of the local alcoholic concoction called Feni. Finally, eastern cuisine is best known for its wonderful collection of sweets made from milk and curd. Gulab Jamuns, Chena Murkhi and Anarkali are just some of the names you will encounter on your travels in the east of the country. Seafood is also wonderful here, for those of you who need a little more than sweets to survive, and is usually cooked using a large variety of spices making it some of the tastiest you will come across. Vegetarianism is predominant in India. The staples in Indian cuisine are rice, whole wheat flour, and a variety of spices. Chicken Tandoori and Zafrani Pulao are popular the world-over. East Indian cuisine is known for its desserts such as the Bengali rasagolla and sandesh. Tea is the staple drink throughout India; masala chai is the most popular variety prepared from a mixture of spices boiled in milk. Lassi is a popular drink in northern India. Food in India is varied, exciting and inviting. Hotels in India are aware of the reactions Indian food can sometimes have on overseas visitors and therefore take great care in the hygienic preparation and storage of food. Whilst health problems are rare these can occur and are often the result of a dietary change or over-indulgence. We would recommend a light diet, particularly during the first few days. For those averse to a curry continental food is readily available. Most hotels have in-house restaurants and round the clock room service. Tea or coffee in the room can be obtained through room service, although facilities for making your own tea in the room are not so common. ndia is famous for its food but hardly many people know that it has array of drinks that are both unique and refreshing. Since, drinking alcohol was consider bad in many Indian ethnic cultures, there is not many Indian alcoholic drinks worth mentioning. We are going to primarily focus on the Indian drinks. Indian Tea: Indian tea, also know as Chai is probably the most favorite drink throughout the India. Indian Coffee: Coffee is less popular than tea. Coffee is choice of drink for many upper middle classes. Indians mostly use instant coffee and drink relative light coffee with milk and sugar. Lassi: Lassi is basically smoothie/milkshake type drink made out yogurt. Indian Soda water drink: Club Soda or any other carbonated drink and other flavor is mixed with salt, lime to give fizzling refreshing sweet and salty drink. Indian Soda drinks are readily available in many road side stall. At first the idea seems kind of crazy but give it a try, you might like it. Fruit Juices: Many road side stalls in Indian city sell refreshing juices. Beside universal fruit juice such as apple and orange juice, many other fruits and plants such as mango, guava, sugarcane juices are also very popular. Coconut Milk: Milk of coconut is also a very popular drink in India. Vegetarian Main Dishes Becoming Vegetarian with Indian food Dining in a typical American home or restaurant would make it seem nearly impossible to be a vegetarian. Many consider vegetarian food as something raw without any selection. Indian vegetarian food proves all of this wrong.
