Shelborne Oceanfront Resort: A Great Place to Stay in South Beach, Florida
Miami Beach, Fl – On December 28, 1940, the Shelborne Oceanfront Beach Resort opened its doors in style with the famed bandleader Chet Brownagle and his orchestra.
Inspired by the Art Deco architect Igor Polevitsky, the Shelborne has a less ornate style than other buildings in South Beach, but with its trademark 30-foot deco sign, the Shelborne South Beach Resort hotel cannot be missed along Collins Avenue. Indeed, the Shelborne has enjoyed almost mythical status in Miami Beach through the 1940's, 50's, and 60's. It was home to the Miss America and Miss Universe Pageants, and was a home away from home for some of America's biggest stars.
