Oh Henry Ford, if you have a Ford with OEM Ford Wheels on it, then you owe a HUGE Thank You to this guy.
Let's start with the basics: He was born on July 30, 1863 & passed on April 7, 1947. If I were running the company, I'd say they should have some kind of special on July 30 of every year for their cars, their Ford Truck F150 Wheels & stuff like that .. but that's just me. When he had first introduced the Model T with Factory Ford Rims on it, he dramatically altered transportation & the American Industry.
Because he was the owner of the Ford Motor Company and all of the little things that went with it, he became one of the richest & best-known people in the whole wide world! He had one of the best global visions of his time, he wanted the protection of his consumers to be the key to peace. The intensity he had for his commitment to consistently lower the cost of his products ended up in a number of technical and different business innovations.
His Model T was introduced on October 1, 1908. The car had the steering wheel on the left (which is the way that we drive now .. or at least that's the way we drive here in America), then most other Automotive companies soon copied. Under the hood of the car, both the transmission & engine were enclosed; the four cylinders were designed to be cast in a solid block; and the suspension that was used had two semi-elliptic springs - all this made the car easy to drive & easy and cheap to repair. How can someone not want this car?
Ten years later (by 1918), half of all the cars owned and being driven in America were Model T's! All of the cars were painted a monolithic black; this is what Mr. Ford had to say about it, "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black". Looks like you really didn't have a choice!
The reason why they chose black was because the paint dried faster .. but then they eventually allowed the car to be offered in red.
What I think is cool is that when all this was happening, the president at the time (Woodrow Wilson) had asked Mr. Ford to run as a Democrat for the United States Senate from Michigan in 1918 - boy did he have a lot on his plate! Even though the nation had been at war during this time, Ford found the time to run as a peace candidate and a strong supporter of the proposed League of Nations.
By the end of that year (1918), Henry Ford had turned over the presidency of his company over to his son Edsel Ford - but he didn't have all of the power. Henry had kept the final decision authority and sometimes even reversed his son.
Now thanks to his amazing commitment & success, we have great Ford models - like the F150 - and reliable OE 2008 Ford Truck F150 Wheels to go on them; not to mention all the other Ford Wheels that we get when we buy one of his models off the lot.
