Properly Sign your Dollar Store Merchandise when Opening a Dollar Store
Only a few years ago those who were about to open a dollar store didn't really worry about their sales. They knew a well-stocked store in a good location was all that was required to generate dollar store sales. Their biggest worry was about keeping up with sales. It was having enough merchandise always available. Well, those days are history. In today's marketplace those who open a dollar store must add sound merchandising to the list of actions required to achieve success. In this article I will focus on one aspect of this as I present proper signage tactics.
Signs must grab shopper attention
Proper in-store signage is an important tool to build dollar store sale levels for your business. When done correctly signs grab the attention of passing shoppers and draw them in to look more closely at the merchandise you offer. Help them do their job by replacing worn or dull-looking signs. Don't cause passers-by to continue walking by including micro-sized print. Make sure the print on your signs is easy for all shoppers to read. Keep signs at eye-level for the majority. Don't overload signs with details and data that overwhelm shoppers.
Limit the total number of signs to increase impact
Build dollar store sales for your store by selectively placing a few signs in each aisle. This strategy will attract attention and cause your shoppers to really look at the items. Adding too many signs tends to be so distracting that shoppers will not respond to any of the signs. The result will be lost sales opportunities for your store.
Sign all end cap displays
Properly merchandised end caps will be among the highest selling locations in your store. Help them accomplish their purpose by posting well-thought-out, easily-read signs on every end cap in your store. A simple, easy-to-read sign can boost end cap sales significantly.
Sign bulk and window displays
Every bulk display in your store must be properly signed. Since bulk displays represent larger quantities of merchandise these signs help to promote and more quickly sell down on the merchandise. For window displays inside your store don't forget to add signs facing toward passing prospective shoppers outside your store as well as inward for the shoppers inside your store.
When you open a dollar store be sure to bring in a good selection of blank Sign Stock for in-store signage. Then develop the habit of always properly signing end caps and bulk displays. Routinely walk your store to make sure there are signs appropriately placed in all aisles. You will be glad you did as you watch your dollar store sales grow.
