Detroit Seoul Kitten's Cabaret is a haven for battered women who are going on their past and fears for the future. When a newcomer Brandy (Sarallison Duke) makes traveling cabaret, he caused uproar among the veteran women's club. Brandy immediately grabs the attention to the handsome Mike the bartender, who is drawn to his innocence. Soon, a sassy Bianca (Chrystal Wilson) takes a girl under his wing, teaching her how to strut his stuff and take advantage of his body tips. He becomes less jaded than the rest of cabaret girls, all of whom have lost their own path to success. When a rival club owner Frank threatens to end Cabaret, girls, is the band's own Director of Tata Burlesque to save the club. Along the way they would return to the importance of self-love, hope, and sisterhood.
But wait, there's also sprinkled with a fantasy story. Looming over the cabaret women have a duel with a clear conscience (Fantasia) and Bad Conscience (Faith Evans), who recruits bet on who can manipulate more than women at the end. Two of which are often, but when they do, it's as though we have come to a fantasy porn, where Faith Evans, dressed in a trashy witch-like costume, and Fantasy is Angelic white dress.
Written and directed by R & B singer Nicci Gilbert, Seoul Kitten's Cabaret brings the theater screen, but not in Chicago in mind. The director literally staged play to the public, describing it, and released it on DVD. The play may have been entertaining a live audience, but it does not just flip the display. Position silhouette shots of Detroit is intercut between scenes to create a place, but other than that, all we see three stage sets: Cabaret stage and floor, backstage, and the back alley. Seoul Kitten's Cabaret did not make the job of bringing the theater in the living room, its availability, and African-American audiences. However, it collides with the so degrading very people it is trying to raise. When filmmakers like Tyler Perry achieved huge success, it is because the writing and acting are strong enough to influence audiences. Without an intelligent script, or entertaining players Seoul Kitten's Cabaret is just painful to watch.
Club, we meet seven women and watch them bicker a strenuous two and a half hours. It would be different if women in any way endearing, but they are so offputting, it's hard to listen to their dialogue. There's not the only actress strong enough to stand up and make yourself memorable to the public. While Brandy may be the most important story of Diva, her character is so unlikable that you will never know him. Actor Sarallison Duke to give the worst and the cast, overacting worse than a high school theater boy. There are so many tangents to the story, it is difficult to follow the plot or to empathize with any characters.
Seoul Kitten's Cabaret is intended social commentary on African-American culture, and Gilbert used in all the cities cliche book. We see the gang competition, romance, drug addiction, weight issues, rape, marital dysfunction, one of the mothers and even a little to remind us to support the troops. Maybe if Gilbert had been polished on one or two things, the story would have flowed better and greater impact. But even the strongest writing can not save a bad work.
I would have liked to see more song and dance numbers, and heard more singing this music. Too much time elapsed between the arguments and the drama, when actually all audiences in need of a musical is great music. Actors were undoubtedly talented singers with hunky Mike (Terrell Carter) is my favorite of the bunch. Eventually, the band's brothers and sisters learn that the good conscience to remind us, "Not every woman who sings the blues live blues, baby."
